Welcome to all new physics students!
Sunday, 12 July 2009

The McGill Society of Physics Students would like to welcome all new physics students to the program! In the upcoming year you will all learn to appreciate life in the Rutherford building. Some things to look forward to: Barbeque in the first few weeks of the semester, The Talent Show late in the fall semester and a Sugar Shack outing in the spring semester!

We hope to see you all hanging out (or playing foosball) in the Undergraduate Lounge!

 The MSPS.

CAP Medalists at McGill
Tuesday, 31 March 2009

We are pleased to announce that two of our McGill Physics professors have been award CAP(Canadian Association of Physicists) Medals this year!

The prizes were awarded to Prof. Hong Guo "for his pioneering work on the ab initio theory of transport in nanoscale systems, including the theory of circuits in which current flows through molecule", and to Prof. Guy Moore "for the broad impact of his contributions to theoretical particle physics such as the bulk and collective behaviour of quantum chromodynamics under extreme conditions of temperature and density."

They have been award the 2009 CAP-CRM Prize in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics and the 2009 CAP Herzberg Medal, respectively. For more information, please visit the CAP website: http://www.cap.ca/medal/publicity/recipients.php?year=2009

Also, for those who missed the big news earlier this month, Prof. Robert Brandenberger, who is currently on sabbatical, won the coveted Killam Research Fellowship in the category of Physics/Space Science. Here's the official announcement: http://www.canadacouncil.ca/news/releases/2009/hd128812650575469099.htm

Congratulations, we are very proud of our professors!
